Most players' first secret
The Kraken is the secret of the Abyss Ocean, a red-orange octopus that's oddly cute for a sea monster ("Oh, this is a big boy. Look at that guy. That's a cute little fella if I've ever seen one"). It spawns often, it's reachable at mid-game speed, and for a lot of Steal an Egg players it's the pet that pops the Hatched a Secret badge.
Income readings
| Copy | Income |
|---|---|
| Average | $14M |
| Secret spawn | $17M |
| Admin-abuse egg | $55M |
The first Kraken in one fresh-account run doubled as the badge moment: "It's huge. It's my first secret. I got a badge for it… 14 million a second. Kraken, bro, are you serious right now?" That one pet was worth more than the rest of the pen combined.
How to get it
- Abyss Ocean nests (2.5M speed). Secret spawns are announced: "a secret Kraken egg spawned in the Abyss Ocean."
- Rifts. Kraken eggs also come out of night-time rifts.
- Admin Abuse. Kraken eggs were common in admin spawns, sometimes huge.
At 2.7M speed, just over the sign, one creator carried a big Kraken egg home "just barely". Smaller eggs are easier. Use the drop trick if the guardian is closing in.
When to sell it
The Kraken falls off quickly once you hit eternals. A server-reset player with a 100B pen found a big secret Kraken egg and wondered "I don't even know if Krakens can make my base anymore at this point." Another set one free: "He's a lot smaller when he pops out. I'm going to set him free. Enjoy your life back out in the wild, buddy."
Keep it until your Equip Best drops it, then sell. Its index entry is permanent either way.
Krakens and Krakenoids
You'll also see Krakenoids around, a related family. One player had "some 1 billion Krakenoids" and was careful not to fuse them by accident. If you collect several small Krakens or Krakenoids, the Fuse Machine can reroll three into one, but keep your best copy out of it.
Where it sits
C tier. A great early secret and badge, then a sell. Fast to get, fun to own, and the easiest stepping stone to the eternal stage.
Kraken FAQ
Is the Kraken better than the Yeti? Yes. A typical Kraken ($14M) earns about three times a typical Yeti ($4.5M), but it needs 2.5M speed instead of 170K.
Where do the big ones come from? Admin Abuse spawns and rifts. A $55M Kraken came from an admin event.
Should I mutate it? Not usually. By the time you have potions, eternals make better targets.
Do Krakens count as fusion fodder? Yes. Three spare Krakens in the Fuse Machine can roll into one bigger egg, but the result is often smaller.
