Why events matter more than grinding
Most of the big jumps in Steal an Egg happen during events. A player who sits on the treadmill all week will usually lose to a player who shows up for one Admin Abuse, because that one hour hands out 2x money, 2x egg size, 2x mutation chances and free eternals. Boss fights pay out boost items you can't buy with cash. Rifts spawn eternal eggs you'd otherwise wait days for. If you only plan your playtime around one thing, plan it around events.
Admin Abuse
Admin Abuse is the weekly headline event, usually tied to the Saturday update. The game posts a message about 45 minutes ahead ("finalizing everything, can't wait for everyone to see the update"), and when it starts, a developer, usually the one players call Ben, joins and "rains chaos from the sky".
What you get during a typical Admin Abuse:
- Admin treadmills that run at 4x to 8x. One creator went from 27B to 42B speed in a few minutes.
- 2x money, 2x egg size and 2x mutation server boosts.
- Eternal and secret egg spawns for everyone: Gorilla Kings, Oni Tigers, Skeleton Horses, sometimes huge ones nobody can carry.
- Mini games each day cycle, with eternal eggs as prizes.
- The new biome reveal. The gates come down, a cutscene plays and the new zone opens. Being there first means first pick of its eggs.
Popularity is wild. One Admin Abuse showed about 7 million players in the game at once, so servers are packed and contested. Bring your best weapon.
Mini games
During Admin Abuse the developer runs short mini games:
- Red Light Green Light. Run toward the finish while "Big Ben" faces away, and freeze when he turns. Move on red and you get zapped. Other players will grief you by bumping you, and traps still work, so watch your footing. Prize: Gorilla King or Oni Tiger eggs.
- T-Rex dodge. Waves of T-Rexes sweep the field and you have to steal the big T-Rex's egg and get out. Prize: a Silver Gorilla King in one run.
- Capture the Egg. One egg, everyone fights for it, and whoever holds it for 30 seconds in total wins. Getting hit makes you drop it. The weapon tier list matters most here.
Dr. Scramble boss fight
Dr. Scramble is the mad scientist villain, introduced in "Dr. Scramble's Revenge". During his lab weeks he shows up roughly every 30 minutes. The fight goes like this:
- Hit his robots while dodging their attacks.
- A robot alligator joins in. It's slow, so keep moving.
- When Dr. Scramble is stunned, smash the core and lead it to the machine.
- Repeat until his robots are gone, then punch him out.
Rewards: a Toxic Hedgehog (often rainbow), Biohazard eggs, and a tiny chance at the divine Mecha Scrambler drone. Every win counts toward Boss Mastery: 10 and 15 wins unlock egg rewards and a legendary pet, and 100 wins unlocks the Pink Dragon Experiment, an eternal. Between fights, his robots drop chemical bottles, the currency for Scrambled potions. One creator had 11,000 by the end of a session.
Rifts and the Abyss Overlord
At night, rifts can tear open in a biome, announced as "a rift has spawned in…". Some rifts are egg rifts, with an eternal Mosasaurus or a secret Kraken waiting inside. Others are boss rifts: the Abyss Overlord is chained up, and you break the chains with your bat (around 10 HP each) while orbs fall from the sky, then hit his hand until he goes down. Boss rifts pay out tokens for the Boss shop. The 2x cash boost at 1,200 tokens is the popular buy. Rift Shards from rifts give the Fractured mutation.
Enchanted Forest events
The Enchanted Forest update added two events:
- The beanstalk. Catch 20 red fireflies to grow the beanstalk, grab a leaf, water it under a rain cloud three times (dodge the lightning), bounce up, ride the giant whale through the sky (anything glowing pink means a collision is coming), steal the giant egg at the top and escape down a long slide while a lion chases you. The prize is the secret Rainbow Amethyst Rune Bear, worth about $3B, plus a lion.
- Butterfly Bloom. A repeating event in the forest. With the net from the Wisp quest, catch butterflies for Enchanted Essence. The Golden Radiant butterfly is rare and tends to escape. Standing still and swinging is more reliable than chasing.
Unstable DNA
During Dr. Scramble's lab update, the Unstable DNA effect turned on for about an hour at a time, and a constantly shifting biome dropped Unstable DNA eggs. Each mutation built toward a pity that guaranteed the divine Octophant at 100 mutations, roughly 300 eggs. It's the most grind-heavy divine in the game, and one creator still got lucky early at 4 billion per second.
Crossover: Sammy's takeover
In one admin event, Sammy from Steal a Brainrot "took over" Steal an Egg with an army of Strawberry Elephants. Players collected coins, charged an EMP bar to 100% and dragged brainrots to a laser to rescue the admin, then Dr. Scramble appeared in a mind-control helmet. Everyone got a 67 pet as a reward, and a few lucky players rolled it rainbow at $1.3B.
How to never miss an event
Divines, eternals and rifts are announced in chat, but you have to be in the game to see them. Many top players leave Steal an Egg running all day. The number one player said she keeps it on "24 hours nonstop" with the sound on. At minimum, log in for the Saturday update. Our blog posts a recap after each one.
