Eggs are the whole game
In Steal an Egg you never buy a pet directly from a biome. You steal its egg, carry it home, place it in your pen and wait. What hatches depends on three things you can see before you even pick it up: the egg type (each biome has its own pool, and the egg's colour hints at the rarity), the egg weight in kilograms, and any mutation the egg already rolled. Learning to read those three is the single biggest skill jump between a new player and a rich one.
Egg weight: why size matters more than rarity
Every egg shows a weight. The range is absurd. We've seen a 61 kg Celestial Sun Lion and a 451,000 kg one, a 75 kg Titan Temple egg and an 11 million kg one, and a Gorilla King at 19 million kg. Income scales with that weight, so a monster egg of a "worse" pet beats a tiny egg of a better one all the time.
A few observations from the runs we studied:
- A 19M kg Gorilla King hit $12 billion per second while an average one makes around $125 million.
- A massive golden Gargoyle (a secret) reached $67 billion, more than most divines.
- A 2-million-kg Spirit World Guardian made $2.2 trillion, while a small Royal Sky Whale only made $8.9 billion.
The catch is that big eggs are heavy. Carrying one slows you down, so the speed on the biome sign stops being enough. One player with 18.1M speed, just over the Prehistoric sign, couldn't get a big Mosasaurus egg home, while the small eggs from the same nest were easy. Heavy eggs also take longer to hatch: a giant Stag egg took 14 hours, and a 9 million kg secret needed 20.
Hatch timers and how to speed them up
Small early eggs hatch in seconds (13 seconds for a Forest egg on a fresh account). Timers grow with rarity and size:
| Egg | Typical timer |
|---|---|
| Forest / Lake commons | seconds to ~1 minute |
| Big Leviathan | ~25 minutes |
| King Snake (secret) | 1 h 30 min |
| Ice Dragon (eternal) | 4 hours |
| Lava Dragon, El Maja | 5 hours |
| Mosasaurus | 6 hours |
| Oni Tiger | ~8 hours |
| Unicorn | 12 hours |
| Kitsune, Night Flame | about a day |
| Archangel, World Burner | ~17 hours |
| Aetherion, Royal Sky Whale | ~18 hours |
Ways to shorten them:
- Night time. Eggs grow faster at night. Place your eggs right before dark and train on the treadmill while you wait.
- 2x Growth game pass. Halves timers permanently. Worth it if you play every day.
- Index reward for 1.25x grow speed. A free-to-play run unlocked it and cut an 8-hour Oni Tiger down by about two hours.
- Grow All (160–200 Robux). Finishes every egg in your pen at once. Good value when the pen is full of big eggs, poor value for one egg.
- Instant hatch. Priced by the remaining time, from 8 Robux on short timers to almost 300 on a divine.
Special eggs in Steal an Egg
Beyond the regular biome eggs, the game has a handful of special ones:
- Divine eggs spawn in every server at once, with a different size in each. They glow, they're announced, and the whole server runs for them.
- Eternal eggs glow too and are announced on spawn. Mini games during Admin Abuse hand them out as prizes.
- Rift eggs come out of rift portals that open at night: eternal Mosasauruses, Krakens and the like.
- Parasite eggs look gross and exist to feed Mr. Toad. Three of them buy a chest with about a 1.5% Monstrous mutation chance.
- Extinction egg (Robux): a 1% chance of a skeletal reroll, then 0.5% for a Skeletal Sabertooth. Fifty of them in one test produced a single 1% pull worth $2.9 billion.
- Unstable DNA egg: event-only during Dr. Scramble's lab weeks. Collecting it during the one-hour window builds toward an Octophant pity at 100 mutations.
- Biohazard eggs: Boss Mastery rewards for beating Dr. Scramble.
- 50/50 eggs: made by two players fusing pets on the light and dark pads in the secret zone.
- Aetherion egg: made by fusing divines at the back waterfall with a friend, or by combining an angel egg with a demon egg.
- Egg packs: Robux bundles of 10 or 50 brainrot or monster eggs. The headline 1% pulls are the Strawberry Elephant and, in other packs, the Mecha or Dreadscale divines.
- Limited gift eggs: other players can gift you limited eggs. It happens more than you'd think. Several creators were handed eggs by fans mid-video.
Inventory, placement and the Fuse Machine
Stolen eggs go to an egg inventory that can fill up, so place or fuse them before you go on a long stealing run. When you place eggs, put the biggest ones in the middle of your pen, because huge pets can grow bigger than the base and hide everything else. Hide pets in settings helps you see what you're doing.
The Fuse Machine takes three copies of the same pet and gives you a new egg of that type with a fresh size roll. It costs cash, and the cost scales with the pets: 93 million for three Cosmic Gorillas, 135 billion for Stags. It's a gamble, and most fuses in our sources came out smaller than the inputs. Use it on duplicates you'd sell anyway, never on your best copy.
Reading an egg before you steal it
Before you grab anything, hover or look at the egg: the game shows its type and weight, and the egg info panel in your inventory estimates its income. Mutated eggs look different too: rainbow eggs shimmer and flaming eggs glow. Spend two seconds checking. It's the difference between a $3K pet and a $3B one.
