Who is Dr. Scramble?

Dr. Scramble is the mad scientist villain of Steal an Egg. He first appeared in "Dr. Scramble's Revenge", an admin event where he showed up wearing a mind-control helmet after the Sammy crossover chaos, and he came back with his own laboratory update that added the Scrambled mutation, a boss fight, a mastery track, a lab machine and the Unstable DNA divine. When he's active, he's the best source of mutation potions and event eggs in the game.

The boss fight

During lab weeks Dr. Scramble shows up roughly every 30 minutes. A countdown appears ("the battle will begin in 7 seconds") and everyone in the server can join. The fight has a few phases:

  1. Robots. He sends robots at you. Hit them with your bat and dodge their attacks. They have low HP (around 5 each).
  2. Robot alligator. A robotic crocodile joins in. It's slow and a little dumb, but it hits hard if it catches you. Keep moving. Dying just respawns you, so don't panic.
  3. Stun and core. When Dr. Scramble is stunned, attack the core and lead it to the machine. You'll repeat this a couple of times.
  4. Finish. With his robots gone he tries to run. Punch him out for the final hit.

It's a group fight, so you don't need a great weapon, but a better bat clears robots faster.

Rewards

Each win gives you something from his drop pool:

  • Toxic Hedgehog, the usual drop. Often rainbow, but small.
  • Biohazard eggs (secret-rarity, low value) and Scrambled Biohazard eggs.
  • Mecha Scrambler, his mecha drone: a divine with a tiny drop chance. It's so rare that it didn't even show up in the creator panel's pet list, only the related Mecha Chomps secret did.

Boss Mastery

Every win counts toward Boss Mastery. Click the potion-looking icon by the lab to see your progress:

Wins Reward
10 Egg rewards, e.g. Scrambled Biohazard egg and a legendary egg
15 A legendary pet
100 Pink Dragon Experiment, an eternal marked "OP"

A hundred wins at one fight per half-hour is at least 50 hours of lab-week play, so it's a long-term goal. The Pink Dragon itself is strong but is "an eternal and not a divine", so don't expect it to top your pen.

Chemical bottles and the shop

Between fights, his experiment events spawn robots around a secret room. Hit them for chemical bottles, and occasionally drone parts. Bottles buy Scrambled mutation potions (about 10% per use) and, in one version of the shop, a one-off special egg for 11,000 bottles.

How many to expect: one creator collected 1,600 bottles in his first experiment event and 11,000 by the end of a long session. Bulk-buy potions while the shop exists. The currency and the shop disappear when the lab week ends.

The laboratory machine

The lab machine asks for specific eggs, a different list each week: a Cosmic Gorilla, a Snowy Owl, a Red Panda and so on. Feed it the requested eggs and it pays out new eggs, including an eternal "from the experiment egg". Completing the list also fills the lab's index slots. One creator finished the list with a Red Panda egg as the last requirement and was rewarded with a $2.7B eternal.

Tip: keep one of each mid-game egg in your inventory during lab weeks. You'll often need an egg from a biome you left behind.

Unstable DNA and the Octophant

During the lab update, Unstable DNA switched on for about an hour at a time. A biome that "keeps changing" dropped Unstable DNA eggs, and each mutation from them advanced a pity counter. At 100 mutations, roughly 300 eggs, you're guaranteed the divine Octophant. It's the most grind-heavy divine in Steal an Egg, but it's guaranteed, and some players hit it far earlier. One got it "this early, not even close to 100" at $4B per second.

The lost drone parts

In Dr. Scramble's Revenge, a little robot behind a secret door asked players to find five lost parts: two lying somewhere in the biomes and three dropped by Dr. Scramble's drones. One creator found both ground parts and two drone parts but couldn't get the last drop before the event ended, and admitted "the reward wasn't that good anyway". Nearby is a secret dev room with a Roblox Studio screen, a TikTok page and what looked like a pet leak, worth a visit for the Easter eggs alone.

Is it worth your time?

During lab weeks, yes. Scrambled potions are the only mutation you can aim at an egg of your choice besides Enchanted, and the boss fight takes a couple of minutes. Fight when the timer pops, farm bottles in between, and spend them on your heaviest egg. More in the mutation strategy guide and on the events page.
