Steal an Egg Mutation Strategy – How Top Players Stack Multipliers

A practical Steal an Egg mutation strategy. Which egg to mutate, when to spend Scrambled potions, how to farm Enchanted Essence, stacking order, and the hoarding trick that put a player at number one.

The leaderboard is built on mutations

When the number one Steal an Egg player was asked how she got there, the answer was short: "I like to mutate eggs. When they removed the option, I saved them all until they added the new one." That gap, when most players had nothing to apply and she had a stockpile, is why she pulled away from a leaderboard full of people who'd spent more Robux.

Her best pet made about 4.8–5 trillion per second, and by her own estimate it would make about one trillion without its mutations. Mutations were worth roughly 5x on her best pet, and they're probably worth similar on yours.

Rule 1: Mutate the heaviest egg, not the rarest

Mutations multiply income, and egg weight decides income. So a mutation is worth the most on the egg that already earns the most, which in Steal an Egg is usually the heaviest, not the rarest. Real examples:

  • A massive golden secret Gargoyle reached $67B, and another big egg with Scrambled + Enchanted hit $93B. Both beat most divines.
  • A 43,000 kg forest secret with three mutations made $73B, "more than a divine".
  • A small Kitsune that got a Scrambled potion came out at $9.9B and didn't even make the creator's team: "I wasted scrambled on you."

Before using a mutation, open the egg info panel and compare estimated values. Spend on the top one.

Rule 2: Know which mutations you control

Mutation You choose the egg? Success Where from
Silver, Golden, Rainbow No, random on spawn — Biome eggs; Admin Abuse 2x boost
Scrambled Yes ~10% per potion Event currency shop
Enchanted Yes 100% Crafted from butterflies
Fractured Yes Can fizzle Rift Shards
Monstrous Yes, via chest ~1.5% Mr. Toad (3 Parasite eggs)

The controllable ones (Scrambled and Enchanted) are where strategy matters. The random ones you just watch for before stealing: a rainbow egg in a nest is worth fighting for.

Rule 3: Scrambled potions are a numbers game

Each Scrambled potion is about a 10% roll. Expect to need around ten per egg on average, with big variance. We've seen it land on the first try ("you have only a 10% chance and you did it on the first try") and fail ten times in a row on a "stubborn" egg. So:

  • Farm the currency while the event is on: chemical bottles from Dr. Scramble's robots, samples from the lab or goop, depending on the week.
  • Buy in bulk. One creator bought 40 at once; another had 41.
  • Aim carefully. In a crowded pen, potions land on whatever egg your cursor hits. One creator wasted most of 41 potions on the wrong eggs. Hide pets and target eggs at the edge.
  • Stop when it lands. Once an egg has Scrambled, move on.

Rule 4: Enchanted is the safe finisher

Because Enchanted is guaranteed, it's the perfect last step on an egg you're happy with. The workflow from the Spirit World Guardian run: Golden came naturally, Scrambled after a few potions, then Enchanted Essence to finish, and the result was $2.2T. Farm butterflies every Butterfly Bloom so you always have essence on hand when a divine comes in.

Rule 5: Steal during mutation boosts

Admin Abuse often includes a 2x mutation boost. Eggs that spawn during it are much more likely to carry Silver, Golden or Rainbow. Combined with the 2x egg size boost, that hour is the best stealing of the week. Clear your pen beforehand so you have room.

Stacking order and math

There's no cap on how many mutations a pet can carry. The number one player says "as many times as you like", and we've seen three on one pet more than once. Our calculator multiplies stacked mutations, so Golden (2.5) × Scrambled (2.75) × Rainbow (3.5) ≈ 24x. Order doesn't change the result, but it does change your risk:

  1. Check what the egg already has (natural rolls).
  2. Spend the gamble (Scrambled potions) next. If you run out, you haven't wasted your guaranteed essence.
  3. Finish with Enchanted.

What about Monstrous and the toad?

Mr. Toad's chest needs three Parasite eggs and gives about a 1.5% Monstrous chance. One creator tried for a while and called it "such a waste of time". Feed him Parasites if you happen to have them; don't farm for it.

Fuse Machine and mutations

Fusing mutated pets can keep the mutation, but if not every input has it there's a high chance of losing it. Never fuse a mutated best-in-slot pet hoping to upgrade it.

The hoarding trick

Event mutations come and go. The Scrambled shop only existed during Dr. Scramble weeks, and the Bloom incubator was removed. The players who come out ahead buy while the shop is open, even with no great egg to use them on, then spend the stock when a divine lands. That's the number one player's whole strategy, and it's free to copy.

Run your own numbers in the income calculator, and see the measured multipliers on the mutations page.
